Based: Nr Worsley, Manchester

Hours: 40 per week (5 days from 7)

Package: £21k/annum basic, 28 days holiday (including bank holidays), staff discounts & incentives, milestone bonuses (up to 10%)


A largely autonomous leadership role running the day to day operations in our vibrant family run coffee shop, kitchen and bar. You will have responsibility for shaping our customer offering and performance, and sustainably but powerfully driving our sales and profits. You will determine our product offering, service levels and marketing efforts. You will keep our staff and customers safe and happy and at the same time find creative ways to improve safety, customer satisfaction and profit.

You will be an ambitious and driven individual who is looking for your chance to make their mark on the hospitality industry. This is an exciting stepping-stone role to more senior roles in larger hospitality organisations. You will be a high performing all-rounder looking to hone your people, marketing, sales and purchasing skills with direct responsibility for all aspects of this in our business. You will receive the support of the owner to develop your skills and innovate in the pursuit of success.

You will take immediate responsibility for running our busy coffee shop and kitchen and it’s team of c. 15 staff. With the owner you will be expected to develop plans to make positive step changes in our business, in terms of service and profitability. With the owner you will be tasked with re-opening our once lively bar, which was closed temporarily in 2019, ensuring this resumes it’s role as a sustainable and much needed social focal point for our village community.

But this is also very much a hands-on role. You will be expected to deliver the above while being at the coal-face of our service to our customers every day. Serving food and drinks, opening and closing our shop, cashing up, placing orders, filling in when there are staffing gaps in our cover and dealing face to face with customers. You will be one of the team as well as the boss.

Role Responsibilities

  • Safety – lead the food safety agenda for our kitchen (SFBB – Safer food, better business) and lead and drive the protection of our staff and customers physical and mental safety on site.
  • People – Support our existing staff to be our greatest asset, plan our weekly staffing needs, recruit and establish a bar team that is fit for purpose
  • Profit – understand in detail our sales and costs, and deliver stretching targets for our profitability whilst staying true to our identity.
  • Events – establish and support a variety of events in our calendar that allow us to wow our customers, promote our business and enhance our returns
  • Social Media & Marketing – lead our social media marketing and increase our customer interaction
  • Range – review and challenge our product and service range to meet our customers needs and enhance our returns
  • Customer Service – understand what makes our customers happy and delivery service that exceeds their expectations.
  • Day to day duties – Fulfil all the normal duties of a shop staff member: opening and closing the shop, setting tables, taking orders, serving food and making drinks, placing supplier orders, collecting supplies, cashing up and banking.

Absolute Role Requirements – you must be:

  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • The holder of a Full UK driving licence and own a car

Preferred Role Requirements – you would ideally have:

  • Experience of working in the hospitality industry
  • Bar and cocktail experience
  • Barista training
  • Previous experience at a supervisory level or higher.
